Both sedans have a 2.0L inline 4-cylinder engine under the hood. Toyota’s engine is slightly more robust with up to 169 horsepower compared to 158 for the Civic. Toyota wins on torque as well as 151 lb.-ft compared to 138 lb.-ft for the Civic. That extra power doesn’t mean a cost in efficiency though. The two sedans have exactly the same estimated mpg at 35. One of the big differences between the two models is the fact that all-wheel drive is available for the Corolla whereas Honda doesn’t offer it with the Civic.

Comparing Technology

Toyota and Honda offer advanced technology for information and entertainment. You can connect your phone to the car with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. When it comes to the sound system, Toyota wins with six speakers for the base model compared to four for Honda. Both models include a touchscreen with Toyota providing an eight-inch display for the base trim compared to the seven-inch version in the Civic. Toyota also provides more connectivity for passengers with four USB-C ports on all trims with two in the front and two in the rear. Honda includes one USB port on the base trim with only the Touring model offering rear ports.

Comparing Safety

Safety is of primary importance for both sedans with each one including ten airbags to help prevent injury in a crash. Advanced technology differs based on which model you choose and which trim you drive. Toyota provides Blind Spot Monitor as an option for all trims while the equivalent for Honda is only available on the two top trims. The two sedans have their own suite of safety systems, which they make available across the board. Both models achieved a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Comparing Other Features

Both the Corolla and Civic have room for five with almost identical specs for passenger space. Each model has four trims with sport seats for the Corolla and an eight-way power driver seat for both models. You can get a power moonroof with either sedan and power heated mirrors. Other similarities include Bluetooth, LED Daytime Running Lights, and steering wheel-mounted controls.

When it comes to sedans, the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic are at the top of the list. These two models offer more in their price range than the competition. They are comparable in most categories with the Corolla winning out when it comes to performance.
