Tire Service FAQs

What Is a Tire Rotation?

Out of all of the tire services, tire rotations are the most common. If you need to rotate your tires, and you live near Talladega, Sylacauga, or Childersburg, then you can visit us at Toyota of Sylacauga for quick service.

  • Why Do I Need to Rotate My Tires?: RWD, FWD, and AWD drivetrains are all different from one another. For example, a RWD drivetrain is going to put stress on the tires in the back, causing them to wear out quickly. By rotating your tires around, you can ensure that they’ll all experience a similar amount of wear over time. This way, you shouldn’t have to constantly replace individual tires.
  • When Should I Rotate My Tires?: Generally, it’s best to have your tires rotated every 7,500 miles or so. If you’re having trouble keeping track of this service, then you may want to pair it with your oil change.

Why Do I Need to Balance and Align My Tires?

Your tire rotation is important, but there are two other routine services that you should keep in mind.

  • Tire Alignment: When you hit a bump, there’s a chance that your tires are going to be shifted a few degrees to the left or right. While this might not seem like a big deal, it can increase the amount of friction that they deal with on the road, causing them to wear down quickly. Our mechanics can align them so that they meet the road at the right angle.
  • Tire Balancing: If you look at two tires, they might look the exact same, but that doesn’t mean that they’re the same weight. If your tires weigh a different amount from one another, it can heavily affect your performance on the road. It can also increase the amount of wear that your tires experience. Our team can add weights so that your tires are balanced.

Are There Other Ways I Can Protect My Tires?

If you’ve already had your tires rotated, balanced, and aligned, then they should be in great shape. In the meantime, you can occasionally check your tire pressure and your tread.

  • Keep Track of Your Tire Pressure: Your tire pressure can fluctuate as the seasons change, and you’ll lose some air over time no matter what you do.
  • Occasionally Check the Tread of Your Tires: Your tires are easy to forget about, so you might go months without checking them. Your tread is going to wear down every time you get on the road though, so you should occasionally check whether or not your tires are bald. You should also keep an eye out for damage. This includes a cracked sidewall, bulges and splits, punctures, and more.

If it’s been a while since you’ve had your tires serviced, then you can schedule your next service appointment with us at Toyota of Sylacauga.
